OVERVIEW

The Kingdom of Lesotho is no exception to the impact of the COVID – 19 pandemic that has troubled the world and continues to demonstrate its overwhelming negative nature daily. The situation resulted in large scale disruptions in global supply chains and demand. As a fully landlocked country, the pandemic has had far-reaching social and economic consequences that force the nation to aspire for the expansion of domestic capability and deepen our self-reliance. On the other hand, it presents an opportunity for the country to strengthen its capacity and reposition itself to compete in the export market; and have a better share of the international markets.

Overview:

The Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) as established by the LNDC Act is charged with a mandate to “initiate, promote and facilitate the development of manufacturing and processing industries, mining and commerce in a manner calculated to raise the level of income and employment in Lesotho.”  As part of fulfilling this mandate, the LNDC has identified the development of national fresh produce market infrastructure as a key strategic intervention required in Lesotho’s agricultural sector.
